We survived that nasty business yesterday afternoon, but it was a closer shave than I’m comfortable with. Let me tell you — one of the first things I heard when I moved to this town is that tornadoes don’t hit here. Well, thanks for jinxing us, everybody! The tornado yesterday touched down less than a mile from my house. I wasn’t there at the time, but my little puppy was and the storm was between myself and my husband. Needless to say that after everything was over and I knew things were okay I had my little emotional overflow. Gah. I do not handle life-threatening situations very well. Actually…wait…that’s not true. In the moment I was busy making sure that people who were rushing into the shelter (the place where I happen to work) were getting to safety. Myself and a few other coworkers were directing the traffic and never really had a chance to take cover. If it had come down to it and it was passing overhead I believe we would have had time to dive into the vault, but luckily it didn’t come to that.
Anyway, we are safe. For right now. Today is supposed to be a doozy for Oklahoma and much of the rest of the central plains. So please, if you would, say a prayer for all of us here. Yes, we’re used to them, but days when there is an expected outbreak of possibly large tornadoes are not fun for most people.
I am traveling south to visit some family for one of our biannual get-togethers. This is one of my favorite things and I’m excited to see people that I haven’t in a while. And there is a cellar down there. So…BONUS!
Stay safe, y’all.
